As a former Editorial Director for Gap Inc.'s Old Navy brand and an award-winning freelance copywriter and creative consultant, I have 20 years' experience in the fashion, specialty retail, beauty, consumer product, travel, food and wine, and luxury lifestyle markets.
I've won numerous awards for my broadcast/TV commercial and print work, including a CLIO, an OBIE, and a RACIE.
I love copywriting so much, I've even taught it at Stanford.

A former Stegner Fellow at Stanford University and recipient of a Rona Jaffe Award for emerging women writers, my poems and prose have appeared in The Atlantic Monthly, APR, Poetry, Ploughshares, The Kenyon Review, NER, and elsewhere. (You can read a few here.) My first book, The Mansion of Happiness, won the 2010 Shenandoah/Glasgow Prize, and was a finalist for the Balcones Poetry Prize, the Northern California Book Award, and the Commonwealth Club's California Book Award. I've received grants, awards, and scholarships from the Barbara Deming Memorial Fund, Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Foundation, and Bread Loaf Writers' Conference, and residencies from The McDowell Colony, Millay Colony for the Arts, and Headlands Center for the Arts. I'm also on the Advisory Board of Litquake, the West Coast's largest independent literary festival, and a contributing editor to ZYZZYVA. I live in San Francisco with my husband, our son, and two precociously named cats, Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas.
